About Treen

Treen Graphics is a proud family business, three generations strong.  It was started by Michael Baldwin, an award-winning industrial design graduate of the Ontario College of Art.

In 1980 Mike decided to shift gears from teaching college and building custom furniture to become one of the first makers of sandblast carved signs.  Originally located in New Dundee, Ontario, Mike’s shop was a converted historical furniture factory.  Over the next decade, Mike and his wife colleen built the business using their combined talents into a company that handled large corporate accounts while still staying true to their small town community.  Their son, John, inherited Mike’s artistic talent, and got involved almost from the start.  John took over the business in the late 1990’s, and currently runs it with his wife and partner, Elizabeth.  Their two children also work with them, when their studies allow.

Treen makes everything on site, ourselves, which is something very few sign companies can honestly say these days.  Not being a large company means that there are no sales departments – you can speak directly with John or Elizabeth about your sign project.  It means you may hear one of their dogs barking in the background, since they go to work every day too.  It also means that Treen has made thousands of signs, and that experience shows in the quality of our work.

John has continued his father’s legacy in the sign business, and also enjoys building furniture from time to time.  In recent years, he has expanded his skill-set even further, building custom electric guitars.

You can follow him on Facebook, look for Baldwin Guitars.
